Aquarium advice is unusually unreliable online, partly because so much of it is written by shops. This page sets out how Animal Spaces works and how to hold us to it.

Independence

No shop, brand, importer or breeder has any interest in this site. Nothing is sponsored, nothing is an affiliate link, and no article has been commissioned.

Sourcing

We work from university extension material, aquatic veterinary organisations and species databases maintained by researchers. Each article closes with the organisations behind it, linked to their main pages. We do not cite forum posts, and we do not cite retailers' care sheets, because those two sources are where most of the field's persistent myths come from.

Welfare comes before the hobby

Where the pleasant answer and the correct answer differ, we publish the correct one. That includes saying that some commonly sold fish should not be sold at the sizes they are, that some species need groups rather than pairs, and that some popular tank sizes are not adequate for the animals routinely put in them.

What we will not publish

• Treatment protocols for a specific animal. That is veterinary work.
• Stocking suggestions that ignore adult size or shoal requirements.
• Product recommendations, discount codes or sponsored content.
• Numbers we cannot trace to a named source.

Corrections

Send the article title and the correction through the contact page. We aim to reply within three business days. Corrections that change meaning are made in the article, the date at its foot is updated, and the change is stated. Nothing is quietly deleted.

Updates

Articles are revisited when the guidance behind them changes or when a reader shows us something no longer holds.

Advertising

There is none, and no affiliate revenue. If that changes, advertising will be labelled, separated from the articles, and announced on this page first.
